Satellite imagery and real-world placement

Place your map on the Earth and trace real streets from above.

Open Satellite and terrain. Everything is on one scrollable page.

Place the map

  • Find the place and set the map's position and scale.
  • To place it exactly, pick a crossroads in your map and paste its coordinates from any web map. Or pick two crossroads and paste both, to fit the rotation and scale too.
  • Nudge the map by metres if needed. Pictures already loaded move with it.

Pictures from above

  • No key needed: Esri World Imagery and official orthophotos.
  • With your own key: Mapbox, MapTiler, your own tile server, or Ordnance Survey Road, Outdoor and Light maps for Great Britain (with a free OS Data Hub key).
  • You can also lay your own scan or old plan over the tiles and line it up by eye.
  • The OpenStreetMap map, with street and stop names, can sit on the tiles too.

Terrain heights

The Terrain tab has its own source. It can match the imagery, or use AWS Terrain Tiles (worldwide, free, about 30 m), Mapbox, MapTiler or Ordnance Survey Terrain 50 for Great Britain.

Note

Pictures stay in your project and are never exported. Each imagery service has its own terms, so use them accordingly.
