Drawing roads
Straight, curved and free roads, snapping, heights and joining.
Press R to open Roads, choose a road type, then click on the map.
The three modes
| Key | Mode | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Straight | Click a start, then an end. |
| 2 | Curved | Click a start, then a control point to steer the curve, then the end. |
| 4 | Free | Bends freely as you draw, like in Cities: Skylines. |
Roads snap to other roads and to right angles. Esc finishes the current road or leaves the tool, and Ctrl+Z undoes a step.
Heights
- By default, roads follow the terrain.
- Use PgUp / PgDn to raise or lower the next point by 0.25 m (or 1 m with Shift), or type an exact height.
- In Move, in the top view, hold Shift and drag a road end to change its height. Connected ends move together.
Joining onto another road
Start outside a road and finish on it (with Make junctions on) and Wayline builds a junction for you. See Making T junctions.
When you start a new road from the end of a connected road, Wayline keeps the departure direction, so the two flow into each other without a kink.
Tidying up
- N splits the selected road at the pointer, so you can start a junction or bend exactly there.
- Add nodes every 2 / 5 / 10 / 20 m gives you more points to drag curves into shape, without changing the road's shape.
- Edit → Fix roads (whole map) links pieces that touch but were never joined, removes broken links, closes gaps up to 10 m and leads road ends that stop just short of a junction onto it. It's all one undo step.
